John McGill, Ice Breaker
Course: Spanish I Hybrid

Task: Introductory Excersize 2nd - 3rd week of class when students will see everyone else in the class face-to-face.

Objective: To allow students to practice Spanish from the previous two weeks of instruction, specifically basic readings and asking questions such as "What is your name and where are you from?"

Author: John McGill, Bishop O'Dowd
JMcGill@bishopodowd.edu

Method: Synchronous

Instructions: Students, you are to walk around the room greeting everyone. You must say hello, ask their name, say please to meet you, ask where they are from, and say goodbye. Then you are to move on to the next person and repeat the conversation.
Authors Note: I will listen to make sure that the students understood the basic pronunciation of the words and were able to ask and answer these questions without notes or additional help. These responses need to become automatic to the students.

Jody Johnson's critique of John McGill's activity:
Is this the first in-class meeting and the activity is meant to be an "ice breaker"? For this activity students will demonstrate proficiency in correct pronounciation of prescribed phrases--which seems like a "closed" activity. Perhaps the students could find something in common with each other or figure out who lives closest/farthest away from the school.
